Dear Diary,
If you think I'm going to write in this like girls usually do. Talking about boys, and love, and how their day went, well than. Your wrong. I'm only writing in this to make my dad shut up.
He was smart, until he started dating that blonde bimbo. Well, Diary. I got this as an early birthday gift from my dad, as well as Barbie. As soon as I'm done writing this little paragraph I'm going to my last day of school while you are going into the trash.
Sincerely, Cassie
Cassie threw down the diary her dad had gotten her for an early birthday present and began to gather her books for her last school day. As she raced downstairs, remembering to grab her purse, she almost ran into her dad's girlfriend.
"Have fun at school!" Candice called sounding cheerful as ever.
Oh, shut up, Cassie thought bitterly and pushed passed the blonde woman and outside. She walked down the pathway and opened the door to her dad's silver volvo. Her dad was already waiting.
"Today's your last day, huh?" He said, trying to make conversation.
Cassie closed the door and put on her seatbelt. "Yup."
"Are you excited?" Henry asked.
"Nope."
"Are you going to give me anything but a one-worded awner?" This time his voice didn't sound patient.
"Nope."
Henry rolled his eyes and started the car, he pulled out and followed the road for ten minutes until he reached Cassie's school.
"Have fun at school," Cassie's dad reached over to kiss her on the cheek but Cassie had already swung her legs out of the car, got out, and shut the door.
"You know you shouldn't be so hard on him," A girl with blonde hair walked over to Cassie.
Startled Cassie spun around. Recognizing the girl she laughed lightly, "Kelsey, the man has got to learn to stop treating me like a child. Do you know what he got me for my birthday?"
"I will when you tell me," Kelsey said.
"A diary. Do I look like I'm twelve?"
"No, you look like a sixteen year old," Kelsey laughed.
"Well, I'm almost sixteen. Two more days. I wish I was having a party but dad insists on ruining my summer. He's taking me the our old cabin, the one by the lake. I begged him not to go, but does he ever listen to me? No."
"I'm sure, you'll have fun," Kelsey tried to comfort her best friend.
As the two walked into their first class together, Cassie shook her head. A lump forming in her throat as she said quietly. "I won't. I haven't been there since..."
Cassie didn't need to finish. Kelsey knew what she meant right away. Sincer her mother had died.
Six months ago, in January, Cassie's mother had passed away, due to cancer. It had been a terrible time for the Night family. Cassie had been devistated and her father seemed loss, until three months later he had bumped into Candice while grocery shopping. Two months later he proposed and she had said yes.
That was another even that had made Cassie upset.
The school day went by like a blur to Cassie. She barely paid attention, it didn't matter anyways. In all of her classes she watched a movie. The last day of school was usually like that. Watching movies all day and hanging out with friends.
With a quick goodbye Cassie hugged Kelsey and got in the car. She didn't speak a word until she arrived at home. As she got out, her father stopped her.
"Are your bags packed?" He asked.
"You know, you seem to be asking a lot of questions lately," Cassie stated as she walked passed him. "And yes, my bags are packed," she lied.
Cassie headed upstairs and threw her purse on her floor. Her suitcase was laid open on her bed, and her clothes packed nice and neat. Anger rose deep within. Someone had packed her bags and she knew exactly who it was.
Candice.
She was always trying to warm up to Cassie, trying to act motherly and nice and sweet. The thought of the blonde woman made Cassie queasy.
As Candice walked in Cassie said coldly, "Don't touch my stuff."
"Well, I just thought... since you were at school and your bags weren't packed..." Candice said quietly.
"You've no right to touch anything of mine," Cassie retorted and shut her bedroom door.

Prologue
Life after death seems pretty interesting, but not when you leave the ones you love behind.
For sixteen year old Cassie Night, losing someone means losing a part of yourself. Fighting love, loss, and pain, will Cassie be able to survive the summer at her family's cabin by the lake?
[I hope you like! It's something I came up with while straightening my hair and thinking about my grandparents who I lost to cancer. I miss them a lot and this is dedicated to them, though I hope I will finish it! The plot is copy righted by me, Alado, everything else isn't. Enjoy!]
